Katz & Phillips, P.A., Beating Heart Disease Scholarship

Katz & Phillips, P. A. is happy to announce our first ever Beating Heart Disease Scholarship. This scholarship is intended to help support promising students who have either personally faced heart disease or have seen loved-ones deal with the illness.

At Katz & Phillips we understand that the risks are real and living with heart disease is both physically challenging and frightening not just for the patient, but also for caregivers and loved-ones. Typically the diagnosis is unexpected; more often than not stemming from a major health event such as a heart attack or stroke. These moments are not just dangerous, but the uncertainty leaves everyone involved grappling with questions of mortality, long-term health, and quality of life after the event.

Although heart disease is not prevalent in the college-aged demographic, it can present if the ailment is congenital or hereditary and will require various treatments and affect the student’s energy, stamina, and concentration.  More often than not, the student serves as the caregiver to a parent or grandparent with heart disease making securing an education especially stressful due to the addition of course deliverables and exams. College is meant to be challenging, but most students do not have to factor in heart disease treatment or new diet and exercise regimes, or caring for a loved one, on top of their studies.

Our firm seeks to lighten the load for one high-achieving, dedicated student who either suffers from heart disease, has overcome heart disease, or is providing care and support for a family member with heart disease by awarding that student a $1,000 scholarship.

We urge all eligible candidates to apply, and look forward to reading your essays and awarding this scholarship.
