DUI with Injury – Hard-Hitting Defense Throughout Florida

DUI with injury, commonly referred to as DUI causing injury or DUI accidents, occurs when a driver who is under the influence of alcohol or drugs causes an auto accident that results in injury to another person. That other person may be a pedestrian, a cyclist, or a driver or passenger of another vehicle. A DUI accident involving property damage or injury to another person is a misdemeanor offense, punishable by up to a year in jail and/or a fine of up to $1,000. A DUI accident causing serious bodily injury to another person is a felony offense punishable by up to five years in Florida state prison.

An important aspect of a DUI with injury case will be proving that the defendant actually caused the accident. Law enforcement may be quick to assume that the driver who had a drink or two was the one who caused the accident. Your lawyer will need to prove that this was not the case, through accident reconstruction and work with expert witnesses.
